Have you ever read a book to a student and knew that they got the concept you were teaching? I have! What a great feeling!
I am a school counselor.
I work with students in kindergarten through second grade at an elementary school in North Carolina. We are a school with 950 students and a high population of our students are military. Since we have a lot of children of the military many students are having trouble with transitioning. I try to teach all my students about having great character and how important it is to be a responsible student.
My Project
My students and I would love to have more books to read in our library. I always try to incorporate reading into my lesson each week when I visit classes for classroom guidance. The students really seem to enjoy the books and they get a deeper understanding for the character trait I am teaching. The students also remember the concepts if you have an exciting book to read. I can go into second grade classes now and students will remember lessons they were taught in Kindergarten. They remember a book that I read to teach that concept years ago. I would love the opportunity to share more books and more memories with my students.
