This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every day I have the privilege to teach and facilitate the learning for 42 assigned to me for literacy block. Based on statistics and data we are considered a high poverty school because everyone receives free breakfast/lunch. However, my students are driven and motivated to succeed by their parents, extended family members, the faculty, and staff of my dedicated school.
Eager, enthusiastic, and energetic are words I use to describe my new fifth grade literacy class.
They are inquisitive and enjoy reading novels, comic books, and chapter books. My students are racially and economically diverse.
My Project
These books and bookcase will be a rich addition to our classroom library. Our classroom library is a magical space. It has pillows, rugs, bean bags, and baskets of books. Books that inspire my students to dream and use their imaginations. But most importantly they enjoy reading in this area.
#classroombookaday is a reading intitiative that will build a community within our classroom, using picture books as the starting point.
Students will be able to reread their favorites and reference them throughout the year. Reading picture books is about sharing stories, and children should hear stories to learn about our world, ourselves, and each other. When we share together, there’s more to talk about…then you can get to the "work" related to reading. The "work" will incude figurative language, inferences, comprehension, and vocabulary strategies.
