This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life." (Berthold Auerbach) Have you experienced the magical feeling of creating something beautiful? I would like my students to know the joy that comes from creating a brand-new composition and then hearing it come to life.

My students face significant educational challenges: a very high percentage are English Language Learners, and many of their families struggle financially in spite of sometimes working multiple jobs.

Yet the children are excited to come to school each day and are eager to learn, and the families are enthusiastic supporters of their children's education.

My Project

My special needs students will use these resonator bars and desk bells to write and play their own compositions. The bells and bars are color-coded so that even students who can't yet read traditional music notation can notate their compositions using crayons or colored paper. The bells can be played by tapping so children whose hands are unable to hold a bell or a mallet can still play their own compositions.

Because they are color-coded, these resonator bars and desk bells will allow my special needs students participate in the same music composition curriculum that all the other students are learning.
