My students are dreamers, creators, and inventors. My student will one day make this world a better place. We are lucky to be a part of a school family that embraces and encourages creativity. Creativity is what inventors are made of...where dreamers come from.
With the fast evolution of technology, the jobs that I am preparing students for are, most likely, not created yet.
It is important to me that I teach my students how to learn, not what to learn. Every day I try to embrace and encourage their creativity and unique style. My goal, every year, is to instill a love for learning in my students.
My students are perfectly unique in every way. I want to make this school year epic for all my students. Seeing them come to school with an enthusiastic attitude and enter a classroom where students gain the courage to persevere with the integrity to make the world a better place.
My Project
Sometimes, getting students to read anything (an article, a chapter book, etc.) can be a challenge. When you know that the text is one that is going to require multiple readings, finding ways to convince reluctant readers to read and then often re-read, can seem like an impossible feat.
Over the years I have discovered that when students have their own copy, that they can write in and make their own, it becomes easier to immerse them in a text.
This year my students will spend time using Design Thinking and S.T.E.A.M to study "Why People Move".
Our purpose to reading these books is exposure how real people and fictional characters, respond to challenging situations? Having a copy of the text will help students develop their ability to read and understand complex texts. Having a class set will change us from a classroom to a community of readers.
