In our classroom, we are more than just a teacher and students. We become family over the year. We learn, laugh, and make mistakes together, as a community. From the beginning, we come together to create magical learning experiences in our classroom.
A masterpiece is built when many different personalities with diverse perspectives, come together to create something wonderful, which I refer to as family, a classroom, or whatever you choose to call it.
Our classroom culture is built on trust, commonalities and differences, and as I said, our love for learning. Our school is a 100% free/reduced-price lunch school, and more than three-quarters of the students come from low-income, high poverty backgrounds. Our classroom is full of caring, creative, driven, and fun-loving individuals who all come together because of one thing, our love for learning.
The number one goal I have in mind for my students is creating a safe place for them to come for a warm meal, friendly smile, and optimism.
With limited resources in our district, we are often unable to purchase items that students need to maximize their learning, explore the world around them, and challenge themselves.
My Project
With our math curriculum, we do a ton of small group learning. My students love being able to get down on the floor and learn together but our carpet is really itchy (and needs to be replaced since our room flooded).
Area rugs will help my students be able to find an area in the classroom that is comfortable to learn for them during math, science, and history.
Our small cooperative learning groups continue into almost all of our daily subjects. Area rugs would benefit my students learning all day in their learning. Being able to gather, have great discussions, and share our learning strategies on a clean rug that isn't itchy would be a huge relief and benefit to my students.
