This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
"If one reads enough books, one has a fighting chance. Or better, one's chances of survival increase with each book one reads." - Sherman Alexie
I have a beautiful group of hardworking first graders.
They are magnificent and full of energy! We attend a very small school in an impoverished town located in the Mississippi Delta. So small, that we have less than 250 students. There is only two first grade classes in the entire school.
My Project
We do not have much, but it is enough for learning. We would like to have a carpet so that we can enjoy reading and classroom activities. Our school has started the Accelerated Reading program. We strive to meet our AR goals each week. I know that the carpet will motivate the students to want to read more. They can have their own little place to go to and enter into the wonderful world of reading.
Although we were unsuccessful the first time from lack of donations, I have faith in the Donors Choose organization.
I really hope that you all can find it in your hearts to help us. I would be so grateful, and it would mean the world to my students.
