My Students
I teach amazing, energetic, creative students with exceptional needs. My current students are in grades 3-5 who are ages 8-12, and who are enrolled in our Special Day Program. My students are all working 2-3 levels below their current grade due to learning disabilities which affect their ability to access and use their grade level curriculum. Despite all their challenges my students enjoy learning and sharing new information. This school is a Title I school with high poverty and 85% English Language Learners.
My Project
We are requesting great stories to hear read aloud daily. My students have not had many opportunities to hear great stories read aloud at home. I began reading some of my favorite childhood stories aloud and my students have enjoyed hearing. With the books from this project I will be able to continue this practice of reading books aloud every day.
The reading materials requested will also be made available for students to go back and read these books independently during our daily silent reading time.
These reading materials will allow me the opportunity to share great stories which can help my students develop a love for hearing and reading great stories.
