Help me give my students a variety of ways to engage, learn, practice, and grow to become confident, successful and fluent readers. These children will learn through movement, games, sensory activities and manipulative word building.
We teach a diverse group of 200+ first grade students. Our grade level as a group of 10 first grade teachers are working together to develop and encourage a love of reading for each and every child. We want all academic ability levels to develop this love no matter what level the child is currently at in his/her process of learning to read. To help each child achieve this goal there are many processes and stages reader must accomplish, develop and attain to be successful. As everyone knows with success brings confidence and that brings joy!
Many of these children do not have the support or resources outside of school to help develop and practice the skills that provide the foundation for a love of reading.
These children depend on us as teachers to provide these experiences in the classroom.
My Project
These materials will continue to help build and develop life long fluent readers. Reading can be a daunting task for some children and being able to reach and engage those children in a variety of ways is so important to instilling the love of learning. These products will allow us to get moving by reading to jump on sight words, playing games, drawing sight words sand, building words with cubes, spelling with magnets, practice our fluency in small groups with leveled books and using pencil and paper to fill in sight words with writing practice and sentence building. If kids can spell they can read it! The goal is to reach all types of learners those that are auditory, visual, kinaesthetic and sensory. We want all our children to feel successful, confident and develop a love of reading!
