My students are energetic and eager first grade students who already have a love of reading! The majority of my students (over 90%) live in the Linden Community of Columbus, Ohio. This community is traditionally underserved. We also have a significant portion of immigrants who are working hard to learn English and academics at the same time.
All our students are striving to go to and through college.
They are resilient, kind, amazing students who absolutely can achieve their dreams. We are dedicated to ensuring nothing holds them back, and we are determined to guarantee a lack of access to books does not stand in their way.
My Project
My students have come so far in their reading growth this year! First grade and entering second grade is where students make the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. With a robust classroom library that contains engaging, relevant, curiosity sparking books, my students will be able to fall in love with reading, and use it to expand their horizons.
Students will be challenged and engaged by the characters, pictures, and experiences detailed in the chosen books.
From Judy Blume to Roald Dahl, the authors and characters chosen will teach my students that reading can take you anywhere you can imagine!
