Our school is a student-centered community. Our school prepares students from Pre-K through 5th grade to be good citizens and community members. Students each day are eager and excited to learn. There are some days that students face challenges that make it difficult to learn. These challenges could be their own stresses or conflicts happening with other students. There are times that students need a space where they can take a break, reset, problem-solve or work on solving conflicts.
My Project
The Lion's Den will be a space that students can visit for refuge and reflection. In the safe space, students can visit the calming center or the problem-solving center. The focus will be to help students reset and get ready to return to the classroom. The goal is for students to be in the classroom to learn, but when they need to take a break, the Lion's Den will be there to help them. The materials listed for this project will help students reset and be ready for learning. Having materials available like stress relief toys, stress balls, yoga mats, and kinetic sand provide students with items that will help them feel calm and less stressed.
