My Students

Students taking my 11th grade Geometry class come from a diverse background of rural and urban neighborhoods. Our school is 100% free and reduced lunch so many of these children don't have access to coding opportunities outside of school. My students have greatly benefited from the application of coding projects within the classroom. Such projects have helped the students apply geometric ideas in the context of real world challenges.

I hope to continue providing students access to coding opportunities that allow students to create culminating projects which demonstrate a mastery of the skills the students have learned.

The donation of a Lego Mindstorm Kit will provide students access to engineering problem solving challenges while reinforcing mathematical skills learned in class.

My Project

Learning to code using the Lego EV-3 system will allow students to create tangible projects to better understand the Georgia Common Core High School Geometry Standards.

The coding process used to complete the various tasks will allow students to demonstrate their mastery of geometric concepts such as transformations, triangle congruency, trigonometry, and etc.

STEM activities such as coding and engineering elevate students understanding from an abstract concept to one that is tangible and verifiable. Such hands on activities, writing code and constructing robots, allow students the opportunity to internalize mathematical ideas and provides for authentic learning experiences inside the classroom.
