Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are working on becoming lifelong learners in all subjects areas. One thing we try to work diligently at is reading. Our students need more class sets of books to follow along while others read. It is important to give them the opportunity to read great books while we pull information and talk about events from the books.
I teach in a low income school with a high mobility rate.
Our families are 100% Title I which means they receive free breakfast and lunch. They crave positive interactions with adults and for someone to show a genuine interest in them. My students also need positive role models in their lives.
My Project
How does energy make a robot move? How can we program a robot to do a certain task? These are just some of the questions we will explore with the LEGO coding kit. The five in one model allows for extra projects and more classroom exposure. We are trying to focus on math, science, and technology. We are going to make sure to apply what we have learned this year to the project.
This focus of this project will be hands-on application of math and science principals learned through-out the year.
As a class, we will take the basic math principals learn and apply them to building and creating five different models included in the kit. We will also take the science of energy and involve that as we learn about how energy is used to make things move. As a whole, this project will cover many subjects and hopefully bring out many thoughtful questions the students may have about these subjects.
