My Students

My students are special, they are children with differing abilities. They are 3-5 year olds diagnosed with Autism and speech delays.

With Autism come a wide range of challenges such as behavior challenges, sensory processing challenges, speech delays and lack of social skills.

My students are attending an intensive instruction classroom 5 days/week for 5 hours everyday. The program is designed to help them in each of the above mentioned areas to support their learning and help them achieve their goals.

My Project

For my preschool students with Autism, every moment is a teachable moment. Emphasis is on learning through play.

Students will be using these materials for hands-on learning during structured and unstructured play time.

Materials like the aqua doodle and magna doodle will give them an opportunity to explore the skill of writing in a fun way by playing with them during open centers. Other games such as pretend pizza making, puzzles, dress up toys, hot potato will help them improve fine motor skills, focus and attention and social skills.

As a special education teacher, working with young kids with Autism, I have to be very creative on how to use the materials to help them learn various skills such as focus, fine motor, pre-academic and last but not the least, social skills. These materials will help me address various areas of need.
