My students need more comfortable seating options such as the Handy Living Maurice Pillow Top Arm Convert-a-Couch, Harrington sofa, and saucer chair, returning our classroom into a learning lounge.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When my students enter my classroom, they immediately become part of the family. In this family atmosphere they grow, and thrive, and learn to work together and look out for one another.
My classroom feels like home to my students.
They see it as a place where they can let loose and be themselves. They see me and their classmates as one big family. A few years ago, as my students were leaving class, one of them nonchalantly yelled "Bye Dad!" to me as though it was completely natural. After that, I began hearing comments like, "Mr. Moore is everybody's Dad" and "I wish Mr. Moore was my real Dad." I even had one of my seniors ask me to adopt him before it was too late because his eighteenth birthday was coming up. He said, "We might as well make it official."
My students feel the love that I have for them, but more importantly, they feel comfortable enough to reciprocate it. And that makes them exceptionally special to me.
My Project
When it comes to learning and engagement, there are a number of obstacles to overcome. One of the obstacles that students face is the uncomfortable seating options that they are forced to endure for 7 hours each day. That's a long time to be sitting in hard chairs!
When students are comfortable, they learn better.
When students can focus on the lesson being presented instead of their aching backs, they can become more engaged. I seek to address this issue by providing seating options that make the students feel great and that make the learning environment completely different from other classrooms that they have been to.
The comfortable seating, such as couches and comfortable chairs, not only helps the students to focus in class, but it also makes the room feel more like home. The feeling of home is associated with the feeling of belonging, which connects students to one another and creates a dynamic classroom culture.
