Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students come from different religions, races, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds; however, they continue to have one thing in common.
They are driven students who will be the future leaders of America. Our school has many struggling families who lack the financial capabilities for their students to be involved in extracurricular activities. For years, our school wanted to create a Model United Nations team, but we knew that without funding it would be impossible. This year, our inaugural year, is the first year we have compiled a team of dedicated students that want to gain experience in solving global issues.
My Project
This year, our school's Model UN team has worked tirelessly to learn about global issues, develop their public speaking skills, and explore the characteristics needed to promote international co-operation. They have given up their lunch on many occasions and have come in early to school to prepare for the competition. Students will be competing as different countries to pass mock laws that will help stabilize world issues.
My students need funding to pay for our hotel in order to participate at the 2016 Model United Nations competition.
My students have the potential to be great leaders and, with some financial support, they will have the opportunity to practice their leadership skills in a competition on the opposite side of the state.
This will be the first time that some of my students have had the opportunity to travel outside of our city. Many of my students have talked about careers that will have a positive influence on others, and I believe this is the first step for them to start careers that can change the world.
