Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come to school everyday with an upbeat attitude and ready to learn. They are eager to improve their own skills; unfortunately, they aren't always equipped with all the tools they need in order to succeed. I currently work in Tustin Unified School District. This is one of the districts Title 1 schools and the need for resources are great. Most of our students live in low income households and are often deprived of learning basic athletic skills, exercise and physical education.
I am trying to raise money to buy resources to help students to learn basic coordination skills, athleticism and aerobic exercise, so that they can become more confident, both mentally and physically.
Not only will the money I raise help with their health but it will also help support their confidence and communication skills. In this day and age, technology, math, reading and writing are obviously important, but dominate academic learning time and students are often not getting the physical education they need in both time and quality equipment. I would greatly appreciate your support in helping my students.
My Project
With so many of the schools resources going to academic materials and extra Title I programs, there is very little extra room in the budget for P.E. equipment. We are in desperate need of new play equipment. Our students are already using old and broken down recess equipment. Help me step up their game, literally. A big percentage of our students not only don't have equipment of their own for athletics but some haven't even played a sport before.
Students who get involved in sports, whether in school or extracurricular, are proven to be more confident, more athletic, have empathy, become intrinsically motivated, less likely to get involved in risky behaviors and are obviously more healthy.
We need to get our kids off of the devices and technology once in a while and get them outside playing again.
