Students at our school are joyful about learning, compassionate, resilient, and right now, some of their families are struggling to have their basic needs met.
There is not a single family who has not been significantly impacted by the closure of their community school, but none more so than our population of students and families who are furthest from social and academic justice.
Our students and their families need to know that they are loved and cared for, that we're looking out for them, and that they are not alone.
My Project
All of us have been impacted by the closing of our schools, but it is our most vulnerable populations who may be most significantly impacted. In our community, we are seeing families who are already the furthest from academic and social justice struggling to have their basic needs met. This matters. They matter.
It is my hope that this project will help our community of learners and their families feel supported, to know that they are loved, and to provide assurance that we have not forsaken them.
Basic needs go far beyond food, water and shelter. Education, love, connection - these are basic needs too. This project is designed to share resources with our community by directly providing nourishment for mind and body. Supporting our learners and their families is a priority and offering basic provisions can be incredibly impactful.
A Karma Box is a little like a Little Free Library. Above the cabinet (the box) holding food and school items, will be a sign saying, "Take what you need. Give what you can." This project funds the start of a project that will hopefully be ongoing in our community. Families are able to receive food and supplies, and students, family members and teachers who are looking to provide service and care for others during this difficult time can offer food and supplies to the Karma Box too.
