My students need new Junie B. Jones books in our library because they have loved and read them all until they are worn out. They've been taped and glued all they can be.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students want to read. They might not know it, but I know. If the right book is put in a student's hands, it will grab them! Junie B Jones books are a great way to start to love reading. Then that love of reading stays with them for the rest of their lives.
My students range from kindergarten to 8th grade and are ready to learn.
They come to the library with hearts and minds open for adventure, friendship, history, sports. They ask for graphic novels and Dickens. To read a biography about a singer they love is so exciting, and many books are put on hold with the anticipation building toward that moment the book is available for them.
My Project
Accelerated Reader is a program that helps improve and track progress in reading comprehension. Students read a book, then take a computer quiz, which earns them points toward a teacher set goal. By passing quizzes students can earn tickets in library to put in for prize drawings. They also earn prizes for attaining their point goal for the grading period.
As students read through the year, their fluency and comprehension improves and their reading level increases.
My 1st through 3rd grade students love the Junie B.
Jones books and ask for them often. The books we have are worn out. It will thrill them to be able to read any of the titles in the series without worries of torn or lost pages and falling apart bindings.
