“Give the pupils something to do, not something to learn; and the doing is of such a nature as to demand thinking; learning naturally results.” ― John Dewey.
My 4th graders love to learn through challenge, creativity, and self-inquiry.
Our classroom is a place of making, doing, designing, and creating. My students are extremely eager learners. These 4th graders are creative and love being challenged. They are supportive and enjoy working together. This is a group that is completely engaged when they are making, designing, building, and creating, and sharing. They are looking forward to a year of pursuing their passions, taking risks, trying new things, and learning.
My Project
My students need literature books to add to our classroom collection. I am requesting three different class sets of novels to read as a class. Restart and Fish in a Tree great opportunities for in depth character study and will create excellent class discussions. The other novel will allow children to try their hand at solving a mystery. I am also requesting non-fiction titles that correlate with our social studies units. Students need to be exposed to all varieties of text. When good reading is modeled, students become stronger readers themselves. It's also very engaging when they hear good stories being read with appropriate pacing, intonation, and inflection.
Students who read and listen together grow together.
There's no better way to develop a love of learning. Strong readers grow from good modeling.
I will use these books to spark a passion for reading in all of my students.
