My students are enthusiastic and eager to learn second graders! I have 28 students from various countries, many new to the US. I enjoy seeing their smiles and a positive attitude. I think about how challenging it is for them to learn when they hear another language at home.
I love when I see students helping each other, translating directions or showing them what to do.
I greatly appreciate their kindness toward one another. They show empathy and provide friendship to other students who may not understand.
My Project
I don't have any guided reading books on the Kindergarten level and very few on a first-grade level. I need these books because we do guided reading each day and the books I am requesting are for students reading below grade level. The other materials will help students to hear the sounds when working on phonics skills. The easel provides me a place to write when we are in the back of the room. I currently use a small whiteboard but would love something larger that students could write on and would allow me to write more than a few words before needing to erase.
Many of my students are ESL learners.
When the kids go home, they speak in their other language: Portuguese, Chinese, Albanian, Spanish, and Arabic. Having the requested materials available will be valuable to me so I can help the students acquire strong reading and writing skills in 2nd grade. Thank you!
