Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help me give my striving students the gift of engaging books that support their literacy development.
My students are enthusiastic learners who are discovering the world of literacy.
Each of my forty students is reading at a level below expected for his or her grade. Three-fourths of them are emerging bilingual learners from many language backgrounds. All need support as they become literate citizens. I regularly provide supplemental literacy intervention lessons designed to support and accelerate their learning.
Access to a wide variety of quality reading material is important for my students’ engagement and success as they become strategic and proficient readers.
My Project
This project will put engaging books in the hands of my students. Multiple copies of these carefully selected texts will supplement the materials currently available to my students. In particular need are quality titles written for emergent readers. I also need to augment the inventory of non-fiction titles at various levels. My students’ first encounters with these books will be in a guided small group setting. They will continue to read the books for enjoyment, fluency building, and content learning. Encounters with these books will help strengthen the literacy foundation each student is constructing for himself or herself. Thank you for participating in their successful launches into literacy.
