This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second graders come from all over the world. They each bring their own unique talents and experiences to the classroom and are incredibly excited about learning.
They are full of energy and enthusiasm and are beginning to come together to support one another!
They are passionate and love learning! As we read stories, they are constantly examining the illustrations and making observations that they are eager to share with one another. They are always asking questions, wondering why things work the way they do, or how things come about. They love working together with one another and encouraging each other to become leaders!
My Project
Throughout the winter months our little leaders will engage in opportunities to learn about different methods of storytelling. We will engage with screen printers, musicians, photographers and even an author to learn about their journeys to becoming storytellers before trying each medium on their own.
In February we are fortunate enough to have author Nahjee Grant come and read his book, The Journey of the Cool Smart Kid, to our students!
Through reading he will be sharing his journey through schooling and becoming an author with our class! We are so excited for our students to have this opportunity to hear from a real life author, his own identity development, and the road he took to find personal success. We want our students to continuously be able to reflect on this experience by having their own copy of the book to read at home with their families, and the tools to explore their own journeys as storytellers.
