Mrs. Frank from Columbus OH is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need binders and construction paper to create science notebooks.

As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school, I see that my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They like to move, read, and love lots of positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free breakfast and lunch.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My students love all things creepy and crawly. Every time there is any type of insect, the whole class has to come to a screetching halt.
I want to tap into their strong interest of insects and build on it.
Our science standards cover the life cycle and habitats of insects. We will focus on some local insects and study them. My students love to create with construction paper. I will have them create the insect and its habitat out of the construction paper and then store it in the binders. With these being our inspiration, they will then begin to research their insect. They learn so much more when they are excited and interested in the topic.
