My students need an Ipad to increase their interest in learning across the curriculum. They will also need a protective case because...well they ARE only seven years old.
A typical day in 1st grade begins with DANCING! We love to get our brains jump started every morning by using our Smartboard and Just Dance videos! My students LOVE technology and interacting with it. Active engagement goes to 100% whenever I pull out an Ipad or a smartboard activity.
My class is full of 24 READY to learn students who love to participate and want to learn everyday & every minute.
My students come from many different cultural & economic backgrounds. 80% of the students participate in the free lunch program and most lack any technology at home that they can use on a daily basis.
My Project
Currently our class is using an Ipad I received when participating in a Math/Technology grant. We use it to post to our twitter account, check our website, write in our online "kid journal", and play "apps" to learn.

I also use an app, "ClassDojo", to communicate with parents and track student behavior (positive & negative).
Students love the math apps (MathTappers) that increases their mental math and fluency as well as the magnetic letter app where students can practice making their spelling words. They are also able to read "ON LEVEL" text with the "HMH Readers" app. Students will be using the ipad mini in small groups during Reading and Math Workshop. We also use the ipads during transitions & bathroom breaks (after they wash their hands of course) to keep instruction going all day by using flash cards apps.
