My Students
I teach a first grade class of 26 students in an urban school district in a high-needs community. The biggest obstacle for my students is the violence that they witness in their community outside of the school day; however, in our classroom, they are safe, interactive and eager to learn.
Even though I teach General Education, many of my students have learning disabilities that often disrupt learning.
Technology will help to keep my students actively engaged in such a huge classroom.
My Project
THIS IS A DREAM PROJECT!
My students need an interactive whiteboard to be used during intervention for Spatial-Temporal Math (ST Math).
By having access to this math program, students would be able to engage in high-quality, visual-based work that teaches concepts through productive struggle. The program is designed in such a way that it is friendly to newcomers who may be learning English, special needs students, and students who are struggling to visualize concepts. ST Math provides students with immediate feedback that they can use to grow their thinking.
The Infocus JTouch interactive whiteboard I am requesting will help to keep my students actively engaged!
The Jtouch will provide visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learning and scaffolding during science and math lessons. An interactive whiteboard will bring math and science alive in the classroom. For math, in addition to ST Math, students will use it to support the lesson that we are covering. Our math program allows for personalized review targeted toward the students' needs. We also use other websites for this as well. For our language arts block, it will be a part of our daily literacy centers. Each day a group of kids go to a site that allows them to read books at their level. For science and social studies, it will be helpful by actually showing the concept in "real life." For example, students can see and hear how weather can be dangerous. The area where we live does not allow for the student to experience different types of weather. Instead of showing a picture of a tornado or blizzard, students can see and hear the real thing!
