Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
According to an article written by Elliot Soloway "Technology has tremendous power to help students obtain, organize, manipulate, and display information." Due to low funds we do not have the technology we need for all of the students to use for higher level learning.
My students come from different backgrounds and various situations ranging from average income to low poverty.
Our campus has the largest amount of students in the 7th and 8th. With a student body that has grown to over 1200 students it can be difficult to find enough money to provide technology for everyone. This makes it very difficult when having to share with various classrooms on campus.
My Project
In a technology based society we as teachers, find it very hard to continue the same practices we used years ago in teaching. Children are distracted by so many things due to cell phones, gaming devices, twitter, facebook, and other forms of social media. We need technology in our classroom to reach our students and keep their attention. As teachers we have to find ways to challenge them intellectually and make learning fun. Educational apps such as prezi, Edmodo, Educreations, Schoology, Popplet, and T-chart create ways of bringing technology to the classroom. This allows students to take control of their education and bring to life the mathematical writing prompt for higher level application. The first project I would like to do is use educreations as a tool for students to create educational videos teaching different methods of solving problems. They will then upload them to edmodo to share in class for homework help and educational conversation through blogs.
It is so important to give students a voice.
Statistics show that when students take charge of their learning and become the teacher they learn more information than a typical sit and get classroom. With the standards of test rising every year we have to find ways for students to enjoy learning so that we can create an environment for intellectual conversations and higher level thinking. We are planting the seeds for student success and self motivation for future learning.
