Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students grow up in neighborhoods and circumstances that some adults just wouldn't be able to survive. Seeing their faces everyday knowing that they are safe at school is survival for some kids. We as teachers may not always know what is really going on at home but we can draw conclusions as we get to know our students and parents.
I feel like my kids are stronger than most adults because they manage to still come to school and learn when they have adult issues on their minds.
Students now worry about having a parent at home because of all the immigration scares they see on television. My kids wonder whats going to happen some weeks and then some weeks they act like normal kids. School has to be a place where they just learn, discover, engage and have a sense of feeling like they matter.
My Project
The students need to come in the classroom and feel something different. I want the students to create a play in a Carnival setting. They will write their very own carnival plays in teams. The students will use their genius skills to create a script for a play.
They will write their ideas with the paint, markers and post it chart paper.
They will need wipes and Kleenex to clean up areas they need for the play. The fadeless paper will be used as a backdrop to create scenes of their play. They will need the stapler to staple the play they create. They will use the mini iPad to record the play they create.
