My students are an AMAZING group of kids who are enrolled in a specialized program for children with 'high functioning' Autism.
As part of their program, they attend a social group to help them navigate the 'social world'.
I guide them through their difficulties with communication, perspective-taking, problem-solving, understanding their emotions, and being part of a group.
They are smart and funny and teach me something every time we are together! Their interests are diverse and passionate! Please help me support them in their journey of social and emotional communication!
My Project
Social/emotional activities can support distance learning at home and in the school building. Our students are going through a confusing and scary time of distance learning/ hybrid learning. The social/emotional component is more critical than ever.
Therefore, everyone can use strategies and activities that address social skills.
Some are communication, cooperation, emotion regulation, empathy, and impulse control. Self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making are key components to help children achieve academic and relationship success.
My students are all diagnosed with Autism and struggle with reading social cues, being part of a group, problem-solving, taking the perspective of others, and understanding the depth of their emotions.
Providing them with these books and games will help bring awareness and guidance to help them through some of their struggles.
