I serve within the inner city of Los Angeles, CA. My student population is predominantly 99% Hispanic. The students are mainly from less fortunate communities, due to multiple reasons. They need funding for multiple reasons for a better education. I would love to have the opportunity to expose them to unfamiliar circumstances and environments. They deserve to be involved in sports. This opportunity will assist in keeping them out of the street life, drugs or gangs. Especially since that's the reality of what they are surrounded by in South LA. This is why I wish to provide after school sports for my students.
However, we need funding for the uniforms and equipment.
I coach the volleyball, basketball and soccer team. I would also like to participate in the flag football next season as well. My students parents just don't have the funds to donate or partake in fundraising just yet. We are in desperate need to give these kids something positive to put their energy into like sports. We don't need anything too fancy but jerseys I can have the numbers printed on for all sports. We need volleyballs, basketballs, footballs and soccer balls for those particular sports. Thank you
Athletics teach students discipline, teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, resilience and goal setting. That's only to name a few skills they pick up from sports. All of those skills plus time management and the respect gained transfer into the classroom as well. Many athletes become more confident in their academics and take it a bit more seriously. They feel their dreams may be in reach and it gives them a boost in their personal goals.
Matching uniforms will give them the appearance of an official team.
They will feel confident when they enter onto the field/court with your help. When you look good, you feel good. It's a mood booster to help with positive moral as a team. This will help these teenagers join and stay in sports rather than make bad unhealthy choices. Teens are very worried about their appearance and confidence levels.
Thank you!
