I teach students who are below grade level in reading and writing. The majority of my students do not like to read and haven't found value in it.
I want high-interest novels to hook my students into reading and become more engaged in what we are reading; enough so they want to read outside of class.
They will also learn strategies to understand their text, no matter what they are reading
I want to open the door to reading books for enjoyment and knowledge, not just because my students have to.
These materials will engage my below grade level reading students in reading for a purpose and explore literary elements in a new way.
My class will be divided up into three "teams" and will read one book in the trilogy.
They will, in turn, become the expert on their book to teach the other teams. Students will create projects to teach their peers.
The culminating project will be a trilogy plot map as part of a class competition. The final will be an escape room to see who can escape district 12 first by completing reading comprehension, vocabulary, figurative language, and plot lotteries!
