This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I want my student's first experience with chapter books to be a memorable one. I chose The Hundred Dresses as a read aloud because it teaches many life long lessons.
I teach a group of extremely eager and energetic 2nd graders in Louisiana.
Even though they come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, they do not let this hardship get in their way of learning. They are excited about learning, which inspires me to provide them with the best education possible.
My Project
I believe The Hundred Dresses is a book that could change children's lives forever. It is about a girl from Poland who is bullied by a group of girls at her school because she wears the same faded blue dress to school every day. In the end the girls realize that what they did was wrong and hurtful and they vow to never make fun of anyone again. It is important for me to educate my kids about this issue, especially since bullying is becoming more prevalent in schools. This is a good book to begin the year with, and I can continue to refer to it throughout the school year.
I am not just a teacher of reading, writing, and math, I am also a teacher of character education.
It is my job as a teacher to provide my students with the knowledge that is necessary for them to become productive citizens and life long learners. Thank you for your consideration!
