The HospitAbilities Certification Training Program
Help me give my students an opportunity to prepare for skills-based assessments, supporting the future of Oklahoma's hospitality industry, for all students of all capabilities.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The best thing about teaching is the students. I have the privilege of teaching some of the city's brightest stars. Because of the socio-economic status of the community our school is in, our students are often overlooked or looked down on. I am working hard with my colleagues to build confidence and pride in our students. We are a rural school with urban problems, most of my students will be the first in their families to attend college. I am super excited about exposing them to new opportunities to grow their interests and skills.
My Project
We know that not all students display their gifts and talents the same way. For some, a paper test just isn't a good fit. This certification allows students to test through demonstration. The hospitality industry in Oklahoma has worked together with educators across the state to identify 18 essential service skills. These supplies will allow our advanced Academy of Hospitality and Tourism students to serve as trainers to special needs students to prepare them for an opportunity to receive the HospitAbilities Certification where the Oklahoma Restaurant Association brings industry evaluators to the classroom to score students and sign off on their skills.
