My Students

Do you remember taking 9th grade English? Its a challenge to get our kids to read anything other than gaming magazines.

As a 9th grade English teacher it can be a challenge to find anything that will keep a students interest.

I have two classes of English 9, we are a smaller school of about 400 total students, mixed races and cultures ranging from Hispanic, Caucasian, African American; all of which share different levels of educational needs.

My Project

With the upcoming school year approaching and looking forward to another exciting year, I have been looking for a text that would engage my students and have a cross genre into film. With the new film, The Hobbit, due out next summer I feel this is a great way to tie the two together.

By funding t his project, I will be able to not only have a different genre of literature for the students to explore, but they will also be able to see how stories get translated from text to film.

The students will see the translation of plot, rising action, climax, and resolution from text to film.
