Help me give my students quiet oscillating fans that can help circulate airflow throughout my classroom to bring a little relief to our hot and humid Hawaiian days.
Have you ever had to give 100% of your effort in a really hot environment? This is the learning environment that my 7th grade students currently face as our climate is quickly changing and we have no air conditioning available in my school. Temperatures are frequently in the 90's, with high humidity, and students are jammed into a small area in a class of 30.
My students need some relief from the high temperatures they have to endure inside my classroom.
My Project
Coping with oppressive heat in a sweltering classroom isn’t something anyone should have to endure, especially children. Hot classrooms are unhealthy for students and it is directly impairing student learning and achievement. Students have to sit in a concrete building with metal roofing, which traps the heat in from the beginning of the day. They often feel dizzy, lightheaded, nauseous, and get frequent headaches. There are times when students will put their heads down because they just can't focus in the heat.
Unfortunately, air conditioning, which is what is really needed, seems like something that is far from our grasp at this time.
At least placing these five fans around my classroom can bring a little bit of immediate relief. Circulating warm air around the room seems to be better than nothing at all.
