My Students
I currently work with an energetic group of high school students on the autism spectrum in Houston, Texas. My students are typical teenagers who are tech savvy, enjoy listening to music and surfing the internet.
Our school is a Title I school and seventy-eight percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
The materials requested will help take our Work Skills Program to the next level. The students will use our Cricut machine and their creativity to design personalized t-shirts. The students will also be able to design and sale school spirit shirts.
They will also raise money, with proceeds going into their Work Skills Program Account.
The money raised will be used to purchase items for our classroom token store. The Design, Cut and Create Project will foster creativity development, critical thinking, problem solving, and collaboration with their peers.
My focus is to expose and teach technical skills they will be able to use post graduation. All of these things would be motivating and encourage my students to go that extra mile to learn.
