My Students
My students love to spend time exploring and learning about music! They love to share their music experiences and are sponges for musical knowledge.
Minnesota has one of the worst achievement gaps in the country, and of free or reduced lunch students, only 25% of Hispanic Minneapolis students graduate from high school.
We are a public charter school proving that all children are capable of success, regardless of zip code, race, or other factor. 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and 99% of our students are students of color. 100% of our students are on the path to college.
My Project
My students have spent the school year delving into music theory, playing bucket drums and learning the recorder; however, I want to give students the opportunities to use their voices and grow. As a music educator who has seen the growth students can make through singing, it's very limiting to not have a piano or keyboard available. I'd love to use this keyboard to incorporate vocal music into our music curriculum for all grades and as a part of our after school ensembles.
Our school just added music and art this school year, and while we're lacking in equipment, what we have created has been an incredible experience for students and teachers alike.
