The Heart of 5th Grade Reading!

My Students

My class this year is full of amazing kiddos. They are social beings and love to support each other in the classroom. They are in touch with their emotions as we strive to talk about and work on tough issues. They relate to each other on multiple levels and love to share experiences from their lives.

These kids, like all of us, have been through a hard couple of years and I am so grateful to learn side by side with them each day in the classroom.

They love being in person in the classroom so they can socialize and interact while they learn.

My Project

Students will be immersed in a reading of The Heart of a Samurai. This book covers many of our 5th grade reading standards. Due to the shutdown in 2020, students have many gaps in their learning that can be remedied in part by reading this exciting novel. This book will catch my students attention from the first chapter and keep them hooked and wanting more all the way to the very end.

This book shows a different viewpoint of early American history which will give my students an opportunity to look at what they know from someone else's point of view.

The message about the value of friendship and kindness shines through. This is very important as social skills were deeply impacted by the coronavirus and multiple quarantines.
