My students need 25 copies of the book The Hate U Give. We plan to form a book club and discuss the book and then take a field trip to see the movie in October.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have students who genuinely love to read and would enjoy beginning a book club to discuss materials with their peers! I have students in grades 7-12 who come from a variety of backgrounds.
These kids would love discussions in a larger group setting aside from just reading books on their own.
Hopefully, new books and discussions with inspire those on the fence about reading to learn to love reading.
I have no doubt that every student can become a reader, but that they just have to find the right book first!
My Project
I have lots of students at my school who love to read. I have many who are avid readers who would love a chance to discuss books with their peers in a group setting. I also have many readers who are on the fence about their feelings on reading, but who could be encouraged by those who like reading more.
We plan to discuss the book The Hate U Give as a way to begin a book club.
Upon discussing it, I plan to take the group to see the movie in October as a reward for their efforts.
Having the books provided will ensure that more students can participate since they will then only have to pay for the field trip and not also the book cost.
