I need gratitude journals and jars to add to our book talk using: The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work by Shawn Achor.
This year is my 23rd year in education. It is a blessing to spend my days at this beautiful community school in the spectacular mountains of Western North Carolina. My drive to work is full of beautiful landscapes. My school is pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, with around 550 students.
We are an A+ Arts Integration School where the arts are seamlessly infused in teaching and learning.
The community is deeply invested in the education and nurturing of each student. Economic status does not provide a barrier to learning; instead, it provides a challenge this school accepts on a daily basis. With your help, we can give these deserving students everything they need!
My Project
This year, I am leading a book talk using: The Happiness Advantage: The Seven Principles of Positive Psychology That Fuel Success and Performance at Work by Shawn Achor.
I would like Gratitude Journals and jars to use during the book talk so participants can take the information from the book and apply it to their personal and professional lives.
We’ve been taught that if we work hard, we will be successful, and then we’ll be happy. If we can just find that great job, get a raise, lose those five pounds, happiness will follow. But recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology have shown that this formula is actually backward: happiness fuels success, not the other way around.
When we are positive, our brains become more engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient, and productive. This discovery has been repeatedly supported by research in psychology and neuroscience, management studies, and the bottom lines of organizations around the world. This is the focus of this project. We need more teachers (and students) that are engaged, creative, motivated, energetic, resilient and productive.
Using the Gratitude Journals and jars to place slips of paper with words of encouragement and gratitude will help fuel this happiness and in turn, lead to a more fulfilling personal and professional life.
The goal of this project is to help me and other teachers involved in the book talk find balance between professional and personal lives. This balance should lead to increased productivity, positivity and improved staff morale. Teachers will want to come to work and while at work we will be able to make a positive impact on our students though content and social/emotional connections.
