Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are warriors in every sense of the word! For many of them just getting to school everyday is a fight. 85% of are students are bussed in from the other side of the city, which makes an extremely long school day even longer. For many there are varying challenges that have greatly affected academic growth and mastery in the past. However, everyday these warriors come to school eager to learn and grow. Every opportunity we have to celebrate achievement and improvement , we take it. Every opportunity we are given to share student gifts and talents we use it. We are getting them used to winning! We want our warriors’ wins to be seen and heard!

My Project

Ideal Warriors love to perform! Our dedicated performance area is an open air space on our second floor that is also used as a dinning hall. This space is defined by a functioning garage door and is affectionately called “The Gathering Garage”

The gathering garage is where we come together as a community to celebrate, support, and perform with each other.

The audio system that we have does not function well for the space. When the gathering garage has met it’s occupancy limits it can be very hard to hear student presentations from the back of the room. This new PA system would make student demonstrations of learning accessible to all. Students would be proud for the sounds of community, achievement, growth, and especially music, to fill the halls!
