My students need room dividers and learning tools to create a comprehensive counseling center where their social and emotional growth can be supported.
The students at my school are bright rays of sunshine! They are dreamers, thinkers, creators, and budding leaders of the future who are eager to learn. We are a diverse K-5 campus providing unique opportunities for students to interact with each other; such as Kind Kids Club, afterschool enrichment classess, family events sponsored by the PTA, and performing arts.
Our school is nestled in a suburban neighborhood and our families work hard to create a strong sense of community.
Our school is also unique in that our campus houses a comprehensive preschool program. We are in our third year of having a school counseling program, which many students benefit from individually as well as collectively.
My Project
The Guidance Garden is intended to be a counseling center to help meet the social and emotional needs of students. When students are emotioanlly activated and need a calming space, the room dividers are intended to provide privacy. The books, emotion stones, and board games are intended to provide hands-on social and emotional learning expeirences for students. The timer will be used to help students develop self-regulation skills and instill independence.
The Guidance Garden will ideally be a place that fosters self-esteem, interpersonal skills, and readiness to learn.
