My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Who is the best class in the whole world?" and they reply, "We are!" I want them to know I believe in them and they can do anything.
I teach at a Title I school in Florida where all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend, and our school also runs a food and clothes pantry for our families.
Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day.
Our goal is to encourage literacy appreciation and responsible technology use while building partnerships with the families of our students. Students will receive books as prizes at the carnival, and parents will be provided tips about reading for pleasure with their students. Parents will also be provided information and resources for encouraging safe technology use at home. At the beginning of the carnival, students and parents will visit stations (Literacy at Home, Literacy in Math, Connect Four Sight Word Game, Responsible Technology use). At these stations, they will earn tickets so they can play the other fun carnival games and read books. We have additional funding to provide food, books to the families who attend. The styluses and earbud headphones will also be given as prizes.
This carnival will provide a festive event that will welcome and encourage parents to participate in their child's education.
We would like to increase the amount of participation in our community engagement events and feel like this will Carnival will do that!
