The kindergarten classrooms at our school are a place where students have daily experiences in learning about the world around them. We would like to take our students to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus in Raleigh, NC. Many of our students have never traveled outside of our small town or attended a theatrical performance.
Our students are 5 and 6 years old and come from various backgrounds.
Many of our families do not have a mode of transportation or financial resources for providing educational experiences.
Our students love new experiences and a trip to the circus would be a first time opportunity for most of them.
My Project
One of my fondest memories as a child is attending the Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus with my classmates on a field trip. I grew up in a rural setting, much like Bethel, and just traveling to a big city was a thrill in itself. Once the performance began, I was mesmerized! The lights, sounds, smells and performances are forever etched in my memory. Now, I am a kindergarten teacher. I would like for my students to be able to experience the magic of the circus, too. A school field trip to the circus may be the only opportunity these children get to go in their lifetime.
In kindergarten, we learn about how our 5 senses help us explore the world around us.
We will use our senses on the trip to discover the sights, smells and sounds of the circus! We also study the various ways objects and organisms move. By witnessing the movement of majestic animals, brave circus performers and their eye-catching props, we will observe their movements first-hand.
