Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade students have brilliant minds! They are, indeed, Gifted and Talented in so many ways. My students LOVE to learn and enjoy a good challenge. The students in this class strive for excellence and have a growth mindset. There are 19 students in my Gifted and Talented class and we are located in the Bronx. About 2/3 of our school's population come from low-income housing, but that does not stop these brilliant minds from succeeding academically.

Nothing can stop my students from wanting to learn and strive for excellence!

My students truly have grit and it is both fascinating and rewarding to see. In addition, my students are curious and enthusiastic learners who care deeply and empathetically about their community. I am so honored to teach them and always welcome the opportunities of which I learn from them as well.

My Project

The Great Switch-aroo took place at our school This week! I was removed from my 5th grade ICT class to teach the 5th grade Gifted and Talented class due to staffing issues in our school. In a sense, it feels like "September" all over again! My new students are AMAZING, and rightfully so, their previous teacher is beginning to take a few things that belong to her to her new school and this will leave us with a limited quantity of items needed for my new students to succeed academically. I want to re-create a welcoming environment for my students and we need your help! The items listed below are just a few of the things that I will need to help my new students transition into having me as their new teacher. It will also help me develop enrichment activities that are engaging for them and partake in professional development as I learn how to become an effective G&T educator.

While I am sad that I've been displaced from my old 5th grade class, I am looking forward to all the learning that will take place in my new Gifted and Talented class.
