Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As the school librarian, I see all 800 students at our school. These students come to school with many talents, strengths, eager to learn and strive to go beyond their capabilities by challenge themselves.
At our school, we build our students confidence to help them be successful.
Out of the 800 students, half of the students are second language learners, a quarter have special needs, and all receive free/reduced lunch.
With multiple intelligence and learning styles, our program meets the needs of all our students to succeed. This year our 5th grade students will be participating in our F.L.A. projects (Future Leader Of America) and their goal is to find ways to GIVE BACK
My Project
The goal of this project is to provide my students with the opportunity to give back to the community; either their school community, home community or to the world. Through our Future Leader of America (FLA) curriculum, the students collaboratively engage in a Great Give Back.
This year, the students want to make a Giving Tree filled with crochet & Knitted hats, gloves, and scarfs.
These homemade knitted and crochet items would be for community members who come to the "giving tree" and take the items that they need to keep themselves warm during the winter. The friendship bracelets would be a reminder that we are all in this together.
The F.L.A. project is a collaborative effort of students who come together to research, design, and create the Giving Tree items through inquiry-based learning.
