The site of our former elementary school was an iconic building in the downtown community. However, in 2013, it was deemed unusable from an architectural standpoint. In 2019, our school was rebuilt from the ground up, turning it into one of the most beautiful schools in all of the state. We boast some of the best views in Helena.
Building relationships with my students is the number one goal.
This year, we have had to make some drastic adjustments to our teaching and the way our students are in the building.
My goal is to provide as many engaging opportunities and activities for my students. With your help, I can continue to give my students the best education they can get!
My Project
I have found one of the most engaging ways to help students love reading: books that feels like a game! We have recently been reading the choose your own adventure series of The Oregon Trail and my students can't get enough of it. We have votes to decide which path we take and await to see what happens next. Now I want to let each student choose their own path and try to escape the Titanic! Here's a brief summary of the book.
An adventure into the historical sinking of the Titanic that is distinguished through lively art and playful interactive elements.
The adventure begins as readers decide how they will travel: as a passenger, a crew member, or a stowaway. The excitement continues as they complete "quick challenges," which require readers to cut, draw, decode, and much more. Each activity leads to more choices and new destinations entwined in the real history of the Titanic. Even the most reluctant of readers is likely to be pulled into this gamelike book as they are enticed to draw and personalize the story.
These books will bring the joy of reading into an interactive way and give even the most hesitant readers confidence!
