Help me give my students the gift of engaging and acclaimed literature at their fingertips. I've asked for the first 50 books/series on PBS's list of America's favorite books as seen on The Great American Read.

My Students

My students are hard-working individuals who mostly come from working class backgrounds. Many of them could be the first individuals in their family to go to college. My students often struggle with the confidence that they need to succeed in an academic setting. They are quite often more than capable, but they're not always used to embracing intellectualism. I strive to show my students that their brains are their biggest assets and that people from all walks of life need to embrace learning and literacy.

My Project

This year I will be encouraging my students to read as many of the books on PBS's list of America's 100 favorite books as promoted by The Great American Read. There will be incentives for the students who read the most and there will be voting to decide which book my students recognize as their favorite overall.

The books on this list were compiled through online voting conducted by PBS.

This has resulted in a varied selection of genres and titles that will appeal to a wide variety of students. This collection of books will serve as my classroom library for years to come! I've decided to include just the first 50 books (or series) on this project. Hopefully I'll be able to add the rest of the books from the list with future projects.

I've decided to ask for new copies of these titles for my students rather than attempt to piece together the collection because I want my students to be able to savor the feeling of being the first person to crack open a new book.
