Ms. Mademoiselle Segal from Milwaukee WI is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need floor puzzles and three rugs in the classroom to visually organize, designate areas for learning and play, and provide comfortable room to spread out and learn.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My class consists of 30 students from various socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, all coming together over the common bond of learning in a French immersion setting. My classroom has slowly been coming together as an organized, visually stimulating and comfortable space for learning, and I want to continue to improve it.
I want to create a classroom environment that encourages free play and is also cozy, welcoming, and warm.
Adding more carpeted spaces will help bring the room together, organize physical space, and decreases unnecessary echoing noise from all the hard surfaces. With 30 students in a room, decreasing sound pollution makes a huge difference! The room is much more welcoming when students can play freely without an echoing din! Carpet will allow students to lie down more comfortably and spread out when reading or playing with toys, educational materials or the puzzles which I am requesting. The three rugs I am requesting will truly help students make the space their own.
After seeing what an amazing transformation having one solid color carpet did to my classroom library (my students have been reading 30 minutes longer than normal now and are upset when Book Box Time is over!), I want to continue to improve other spaces in the room as well.
Currently, my Construction Corner with LEGO, blocks, and other STEM skills resources is made up of a mishmash of mismatched carpets and mini rugs that are visually overwhelming, hard to clean, and not very safe since there are several overlapping corners to trip over.
Having one solid carpet would make it amazing!
