Imagine walking into a room where students are eager to learn and happy to be in an upbeat environment everyday. This is the class you will see when you are a guest in our classroom. These twenty-seven eager to learn students are from the southwest side of Chicago in a mainly Hispanic neighborhood. These students love to make new friends, lose themselves in a page and travel the world through the many different settings each story has to offer.
My goal is to make sure that all students, regardless of where they are academically, have all the tools they need to be successful.
Our wonderful school is in a high poverty area. Ninety percent of our thirteen hundred students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of my students' families are immigrants. They are polite, well mannered, hard working students who come from good homes.
I want to have a literacy unit with my students. Having the resources of a student set of The Giver as well as teaching support materials will allow me to make this dream a reality.
Having a classroom set of the book The Giver, will allow me to make end this school year with a memorable literacy learning experience for my students.
One of my most memorable childhood memories was reading The Giver with my fifth grade class when I was in elementary school.
Having a classroom set of books will also help my students develop a life long love of literature the way it did for me as a child.
