My Students

My school has an unique population of students. My students come from traditional and non-traditional home settings in a town that is suffering from a loss of our working mill. We have closed a school and merged into one building. These kids are mostly from farms, multi-family homes, and rural settings.

My school is full of little Mainers with big dreams and it's my job to get them started on the right path!

My school is a professional community of life-long learners with a common goal: Teach Every Child.

My Project

The new learning around classroom libraries is that they offer students the ability to access books by genre and by reading level.

Gone are the days that the teacher picks the book; Students have voice in choice with reading.

As little people who are learning to read, there is nothing more important than allowing them to grow their interests and read about things that inspire them. We all read more frequently and with more motivation when we are reading about things we love or have interest in.

These books will allow me to expand beyond genre shopping and create a space where students can explore their world without my direct instruction.
